1. Trio Garufa
I've know this group for several years. All members are also local SF/Bay Area dancers. While only composed of three members, they are all brilliant and uniquely talented and have spent many years developing their highly danceable sound. Trio Garufa sports a great mix of traditional arrangements and alternative selections (many of their own compositions as well).
This incredible sextet has recreated the sound of some of the classic Golden Age orchestras such as Carlos Di Sarli and Juan D'Arienzo. Lead by bandoneon player extraordinaire Seth Asarnow
, and with a cast of top notch professional SF Bay Area musicians, this group meticulously focuses on exact stylistic reproduction. Sometimes you can't tell if the DJ is playing recorded music or if the band is playing it live! And the scary thing is that they keep getting better...
